Many aspects of our daily lives have changed recently due to COVID-19. It can be especially hard to explain it all to kids when we still don’t have all the answers ourselves.

Within the last month, schools closed, parks and playgrounds have shut down and we've been told to avoid going to visit with friends and family.

With Easter weekend upon us, it can be especially hard as this is a time when many families take the Good Friday holiday to travel to be with loved ones, something that’s not supposed to happen this year.

It’s likely left children with questions that can’t all be answered right now, but there is one thing the Airdrie RCMP wanted to do to reassure local kids.

RCMP say that although we might not all be able to get together this long weekend, it doesn’t mean the Easter Bunny won’t visit.

“Things have been stressful lately in Airdrie with everyone self-isolating,” explained Corporal Gina Slaney. “But, I have some great news for the kids, the Easter Bunny and even the Tooth Fairy have been classified as essential workers.”

Slaney says that means the Easter Bunny and Tooth Fairy will still be allowed to visit kids in the city, though they will be taking more precautions including wearing personal protective equipment like gloves, and making sure to wash their hands after every house they visit and remembering not to touch their face.

Although this Easter will likely be very different for many families, the Airdrie RCMP are wishing everyone a safe and happy holiday and are encouraging people to continue practising physical and social distancing.
