The Festival of Trees fundraiser in support of the BGC Airdrie Club has officially ended.

The event kicked off November 13 and ran until November 28 with the final draws taking place yesterday.

Kathy Ritcher, the manager of events, volunteers and administration at BGC Airdrie Club explains how the annual event came to be.

"Festival of Trees was first brought to Airdrie about eight years ago. with collaboration from local businesses here in Airdrie, they sponsor the tree (BGC Airdrie provides them with the tree), they decorate the tree and put some fabulous prizes on or under the tree."

Airdronians were able to buy $5 tickets for trees of their choosing, and if they won, they got the tree and everything that went along with it. With so many great submissions this year, choosing the ones to buy tickets for was difficult.

"Everybody could not decide which tree to buy tickets for. We had a lot of members of the community that just bought a ticket on each and every tree."

While the group is still waiting for the final total, Ritcher did state they believe around $9,000 was fundraised.

"These are much-needed funds to help support our programs, services and resources that we provide to children, youth and their families."

This weekend, the club will be holding another event, the BGC Airdrie Club Holiday Market, another great event that will help fund the work they do in our community.

"This year, we have 35 vendors, which for us in our location is fantastic."

The event will run this Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Boys and Girls Airdrie Club location connected to the Ron Ebbesen Arena.
