Airdrie Fire crews and hazmat personnel responded to a fuel spill Friday afternoon in a residential area.

The incident happened at a residence on Kings Heights Road SE.

Firefighters initially deployed absorbent pads and booms to contain and collect the fuel before it could enter an adjacent natural water feature.

Staff from Public Works, Water Services and Municipal Enforcement attended to assist with initial investigation and mediation efforts.

A Rapid Response HazMat team was also dispatched to assist firefighters with removal and disposal of all contaminated materials.

Water Services staff monitored the underground storm water system to determine how much of the infrastructure had been affected by the fuel spill.

No vehicle was found on scene at the time of the incident so it’s unclear what caused the fuel spill at this time.
