One of the major fundraisers for Community Links' Supplies 4 Success program will take place tomorrow (August 15) in Airdrie.

Laurie Jacobs-Toews, Community Engagement Manager with Community Links says from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm on the parking lot of the Airdrie Staple's store, Davis Chevrolet will be providing free test drives for anyone (licensed) who wants to take one of their new cars for a spin.  "What they're doing for that is that they're donating $20 per test drive to the Supplies 4 Success program," explains Jacobs-Toews.  "They're also having a barbeque on-site, some kids games and some popcorn.  You can find out a little more about the program and also help contribute to the cause by driving a nice, brand new vehicle."

A second "test drive" fundraiser will take place next Thursday, August 22nd.

The Supplies 4 Success program is now in its 17th year and has supplied thousands of backpacks and back to school supplies for those Airdrie families going through hard times.  The goal this year, according to Jacobs-Toews, is to raise $15,000 which will purchase 350 backpacks filled with supplies.

"This year we're also partnering with the Boys and Girls Club and they're hosting a back to school event at their site (200 East Lake Crescent) on August 24th from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm," Jacobs-Toews says.  "And then people can come into our office on August 29th and 30th (8:30 am - 8:00 pm August 29th and 8:30 am - 4:30 pm on August 30th) and get backpacks.  Anyone is welcome to come in.   It's meant for those families that are in financial need at this time of year."

In order to get a backpack, families must have proof of residency such as a bill, license or Notice of Assessment, as well as ID for all children receiving a backpack.

"We know that back to school is a tough time for a lot of families," says Jacobs-Toews.  "Our economy, we're still struggling.  We want to make sure that all these kids in our area are able to go back to school with a backpack full of necessary school supplies to help them be successful."
