This past Saturday was the Airdrie Pride Festival, and it was a day full of festivities.

The day started with a solidarity walk, followed by a flag raising at Nose Creek Park. Some of the festivities included a Pride Dog Fashion Show and multiple other performances.

Rhianne Fiolka, President of the Airdrie Pride Society couldn't be happier with how the day turned out.

"It went really well. We had a lot of great community members come out, we had more vendors than in other years, and we also had more performers. So it was really great."

Fiolka mentioned it feels great to see the community rallying around them and showing that Airdrie is a safe place to be for the  LGTBQIA2S+ community.

"The solidarity walk was really lovely. As per usual, we find that to be a very impactful part of the Pride Festival. We had it opened in a great way with an indigenous singer and drummer, we also had a wonderful flag raising and speech from youth in our community."

Fiolka stated the festival will be back as it will be an annual event.

"The people who came to the festival seem to stay for a long time and really enjoy the different aspects and activities that we had going on."

Planning for the next festival will begin in the fall.
