With Christmas falling on a Monday this year, there will be some interruptions to garbage, organics and recycling collection.

"Christmas Eve and Boxing Day collections will resume as normal," said Leanne Moreira, Education Coordinator with Waste and Recycling at the City of Airdrie. "However, on Monday, December 25 and Monday, January 1 recycling, organics and waste will not be collected. Collection will take place on Tuesday, along with any regular Tuesday collection."

With biweekly organics collection, next week is organics week for Luxstone, Prairie Springs, Windsong and Southwinds. Moreira explained what residents of those neighbourhoods need to have at their curbs on Tuesday morning.

"You want to put out your one bag of waste, your green cart and your blue cart, and you want to make sure to leave one meter of space between your carts and any vehicle or fences to ensure that the truck's automated arms have enough clearance to collect that material."

Coopers, Hillcrest and Morningside will have garbage and recycling collection on Tuesday. Fairways, Stonegate, Sunridge, Woodside, Reunion, Williamstown and Silvercreek will have only recycling collection.

Moreira said extra collectors will be out, but collection is still expected to take most of the day.

"We will have collectors with extra trucks out in those neighbourhoods to collect from the additional communities, but it will likely take them until 7:00pm, so please leave your carts out until then."
