Edmund Crame couldn't be prouder of his junior and senior varsity boys volleyball teams at St. Martin de Porres High in Airdrie. Both teams won the Calgary Senior High School Association championships November 17 - for the send year in a row.

Crame says his guys showed great spirit and teamwork in taking the championships, playing against teams from MUCH bigger schools.

At St. Martin's, there are only 291 kids in grades 10-12.

Crame says the volleyball program has been so successful that many kids are starting to play outside of school.

He hopes that some of them will go on to play at the university and college level.

Crame credits a great work ethic for the Junior Varsity squad's win.

Experience from their setter, Colin Hillson, and great skill from 6'4" middle hitter Alex Granley were also keys to their success.

The Senior Varsity team has more experience but still faced a formidable foe in Bishop McNally, the team from Calgary they beat to win the Championship.

Those two grade 12s are Brett Goodman who Crame describes as the vocal leader and hardest working guy on the court, and Chad McMonagle whose greatest weapon is hard hits from power. Goodman and McMonagle provide great leadership for the team.

The junior team is done for this year, but the seniors are off to the Provincials in Kitscoty and Marwaine - around Lloydminster.
