Airdrie residents only have a few more days to complete the 2019 city census.

The City of Airdrie conducts a municipal census each spring. The information the city collects is used to assist departments in planning for the needs of Airdrie citizens.

“These go to things like Police, infrastructure, social planning so it’s really important that we get what we can to put towards those programs,” said Kari Kitiuk, team leader for legislative services with the city.

Decisions regarding future transportation networks, the locations of schools, parks, utilities and fire protection facilities are largely based on population growth information that gets collected. Many of the grants received from the Province are awarded on a per-capita basis.

“It’s important that we count every person so we can maximise the grants that we get so we can maximize the grants that we get,” she said.

Kitiuk estimates 98 per cent of people have completed the census so far.

If you haven't completed your census online, there's still time. The census can be completed online by using the pin that was delivered to homes in April. If you misplaced the pink card you can always call the city at 403-948-8816.
