A young man from Bearspaw is representing Canada in Rio De Janeiro at the 2016 Paralympic Games.

Stefan Daniel made history at the Inaugural Paralympic Triathlon, winning a silver medal for Canada.

The 19 year old had previously won 3 international triathlon medals, including gold at the 2015 World Championships.

Daniel says he's excited to represent Canada at a large scale event like the Paralympics.

"I've represented Canada a few times but nothing on this type of stage," he says, "I know I'll be representing everybody at home, and I'm just going to give everything I can for them."

It's been a long journey to Rio for Daniel, he moved to Victoria this year to train with the top Canadian Triathletes, and be in the same city as his coach Carolyn Murray.

"It's been fun , I've had a good year, I'm in good shape" said Daniel.

The Paralympic Triathlon involved a 750-metre swim, a 20 kilometre bike, and a five kilometre run.

"My favourite part is the run by far," says Daniel, "I'm a runner at heart, I do cross country running for the Dinos, it's been my favourite part since I was a kid."
