Several local players were involved in WHL playoff action last night (March 24) and a couple of them made an impression, one on the scoresheet and one in the penalty box.

Zachary Cox from Balzac suited up for his first taste of playoff action in the Western League and made the best of it by scoring a goal in the Lethbridge Hurricanes 8 - 3 win over Red Deer.  The win gives the Canes a two games to none lead in the series.

Airdrie's Barrett Sheen didn't make the list of scorers in Moose Jaw's 3 - 2 overtime win over the Prince Albert Raiders, but he did make the game summary by amassing 16 minutes in penalties, picking up three minors and a ten-minute misconduct.  The Warriors, who finished first overall in the WHl, have had their hands full with the Raiders.  The series is now even at one game apiece heading for PA.

In last night's other game with an area flavour, the Tri-City Americans outscored the Kelowna Rockets 9 - 7.  The Americans who made it into the playoffs through a wild card spot knocked off the Rockets, who finished in first place in the B.C. Division, for the second straight game in Kelowna and now take a 2 - 0 lead back to their home rink.

Cochrane's Connor Bouchard didn't score for the Americans nor did Dillon Dube from Cochrane playing for the Rockets.  Cayde Augustine from Airdrie didn't dress for the game for Kelowna.

Tonight, Gary Haden of Airdrie and the Medicine Hat Tigers play host to the Brandon Wheat Kings.  The Tigers lead that series one game to none.
