Airdrie City Council is meeting for the second time this month and will cover a lot of territory during that get-together at 3:30 pm today (October 19).

Airdrie Fire Chief Kevin Weinberger, who also serves as the city's Manager of Protective Services, will present council with a bi-annual update on the activities of the Airdrie RCMP as well as the response to COVID-19.

Council will also be provided with an overview from Team Leader for Social Planning Pauline Clark of a diversity and inclusion primer that highlights key definitions and general approaches to assist council in responding to community issues related to diversity and inclusion.

Sharon Pollyck, the Director of the CAO Office will ask, on behalf of the Airdrie Domestic Violence Coalition, that council proclaims the month of November Family Violence Prevention Month.  The request will include that council approves lighting up city hall in purple lights on November 2nd to bring awareness to the issue of family violence and support those that are impacted by it.

Pollyck will also ask the council to ratify a letter in support of the Thumbs Up Foundation's application to the BILD grant to fund community meeting room space for their Harmonized Health project.

Other items on the agenda include information regarding a request by the Philippine Consul General in Calgary with support from the Filipino Airdrie Association of a piece of public art.  Brad Anderson, Manager of Genesis Place will give council an update on the possibility of expanding the Veterans Pass category at the facility to include broader eligibility, including retired RCMP members.
