New locally designed courses will give RVS high school students more choices when picking classes.

At the latest Rocky View Schools (RVS) Board of Trustees meeting, the Board approved the acquisition of several Locally Developed Courses (LDCs) beginning in the 2024/25 school year.

According to RVS, "LDCs are courses which are developed by other jurisdictions and include subjects such as Astronomy, Indigenous Art and Ceremony, Métis History and Stories, Pathways to Reconciliation,  Leather Technologies, and Orientation and Mobility."

LDCs empower school authorities to innovate and respond locally, providing students with unique opportunities to explore diverse interests that align with provincial programs of study.

Also at the latest meeting, the province allocated a few modular classrooms to RVS. The board also approved their three-year capital plan when it comes to funding requests.

As of March 14, the Associate Superintendent of Business and Operations received correspondence from Alberta Education approving nine new modular classrooms and one washroom relocation.
