For the second time in less than an month, RCMP in southeastern Alberta have clocked someone driving more than 200 km/h on the Trans Canada Highway.

On Saturday August 31, an officer was on patrol on Highway 1 west of Brooks at approximately 11 p.m. when he saw two vehicles speeding westbound.

Radar recorded one of the drivers at 219 km/h and RCMP pulled the vehicle over at the entrance to Brooks.

Mounties say there were two passengers in the vehicle, one being a youth.

An investigation determined that the two vehicles were racing. Police say the highway, which has a speed limit of 110 km/h in the area, was wet from rain at the time of the incident.

A 21-year-old Calgary man has been charged with dangerous driving while RCMP are still trying to determine the identity of the second driver.

On August 10, just three weeks prior to this latest incident, Brooks RCMP clocked a driver going 226 km/h on Highway 1. A man from Brooks was charged.
