As provincial health restrictions in Alberta begin to ease, the Airdrie Dads can start to breathe.

Late last week, the organizing committee sent out what they called, "one of the best emails we have sent to date", saying they were pumped that the Sixth annual Airdrie Dads Golf Tournament would go ahead on Friday, June 25 at the Apple Creek Golf Course.

Golfers will tee off at 1:30 pm.

One of the organizers, Steve Gruber said they've had plenty of time to organize this year's event since they started in January 2020.  Last year's tournament was cancelled because of COVID-19 and, whether or not this year's tourney would go ahead was a roller coaster of emotions and altered plans.

When the latest round of restrictions was put in place on May 4 because of the huge spike in virus cases in the province, the organizers put things on hold once again.

Now, with the spike falling dramatically and Alberta's Open For Summer Plan in place, plans for the charitable tournament are back on, more or less, full steam ahead.

Other than the fun on the golf course, the 2021 edition will look quite different than in year's past as the organizers have made several changes to ensure they follow Alberta Health Services (AHS) guidelines.

This year the fundraising auction will be held virtually and the group feels this could actually make it better as more people will be able to go online to have a look at the items up for bid prior to tournament day.

The post-tournament reception will also not be held but instead, golfers will be able to take their meal home with them to enjoy.

More information on the annual Airdrie Dads Golf Tournament will come in the next month

In the past, the Dads have raised funds for several charities, including the Nathan O'Brien Children's Foundation, the Airdrie Food Bank and the Boys and Girls Club of Airdrie.
