After getting rained out two weeks ago, Music in the Park is set to debut at Nose Creek Park tonight.

Blues musicians will perform on the Nose Creek Park amphitheatre stage every other Thursday night from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. throughout the Summer.

Tonight will see Danny Vacon open up for Mike Watson.

Curator Cindy McLeod says Watson is the "next generation" of blues musicians.

"He's really come into his own these last few years. He's super busy, all kinds of people are after him because he has a broad musical spectrum to draw from. A really intense performer and passionate, so he really gets a crowd going," says McLeod.

Watson was named Calgary Blues Music Association Blues Vocalist of the Year 2014.

McLeod says Airdronians are really in for a treat with the Music in the Park series.

"We're absolutely delighted to be able to bring some blues to Airdrie for the first time. There's a strong talent pool in Calgary of blues musicians and one of the musicians actually lives in Airdrie," says McLeod.

Debra Power of Airdrie is set to perform on the final night, August 29. The Mitch Belot Band will open for her. They were set to play the inaugural Music in the Park on July 4, but were rescheduled after Mother Nature put a damper on the first planned performances.

The City of Airdrie suggests bringing your own festival chair and blanket to Music in the Park.

Consession stands for the event will be hosted by the Airdrie 2020 Alberta Winter Games Society. Funds raised will support the cultural components for the Alberta Winter Games, which will be held in Airdrie from February 14-17, 2020.
