It is going to be a busy weekend for Airdrie and supporters of local hockey player Ryan Straschnitzki.

The #StrazStrong Benefit Concert takes over Genesis Place on Saturday and organizer Cody Thompson says everyone is ready as they enter the final push for the show.

Cody Thompson speaks at the Straz Strong Vigil held in April

“For the most part, I think everything is set and ready to go. We’re still looking for a few specific volunteers and then obviously the biggest thing is getting the final tickets sold and filling up the barn.”

Thompson says that the concert and everything else that has come with Straz Strong has only one big purpose.

“Everything that we’re doing is to figure out how do we help Ryan through this transition. It was only 8 and a half weeks ago that that accident happened. As a community, we really believe that Airdrie and Calgary will come together and support him in his road to recovery and his normal life as possible.”

Aside from that, Thompson agrees that the concert and Airdrie’s support for Ryan has helped put the City on the map, showing how one community truly rallies behind one of their own.
