After starting the Heritage Junior Hockey League (HJHL) season with losses in their first seven games, the Airdrie Techmation Thunder have started a streak they're enjoying much more.

The Thunder took two games this weekend by identical 4 - 2 results and are now in the midst of a three-game winning streak that has propelled them to fifth place in the North Division of the HJHL.

Friday night (October 20) the Mountainview Colts paid a visit to the Ron Ebbesen Arena where the Thunder came ready to play, jumping out to a 2 - 0 lead on goals from Kyle Shoemaker and Calan Blondeau by the time the game was five minutes old.  The Didsbury-based Colts fought back and got a goal with under a minute to play in the first to make it 2 - 1 Thunder after 20.

Another Colts goal with less than a minute gone in the second frame tied it up before last week's Thunder Thursday Player of the Week Kyran Gromnisky scored his fifth of the year to put Airdrie ahead to stay.  Reed Chalmers would score in the third to make the final 4 - 2 for Airdrie.

The Colts had a 44 - 31 edge in shots on goal with Josh Feddema getting the win in net for the Thunder.

On Saturday the Airdrie team hit the road to Strathmore and a game with the Wheatland Kings who only had one regulation-time loss this season.  Once again a strong first period set up the rest of the game with Zach Couling and Joey Haden giving the Thunder a 2 - 0 lead after one period.

A Wheat Kings goal precisely halfway through the second tightened the game up but the Thunder would strike back, with Haden scoring twice more to put the Thunder up 4 - 1 to complete his hattrick.   The goals were Haden's first three of the year.  Strathmore would get one more back with just over a minute remaining in the game but it was too little, too late as Airdrie scored their second 4 - 2 victory of the weekend.  Airdrie's four goals came on just 15 shots.  That compared to 39 by Strathmore with Thunder goaltender Austin White turning in a strong performance.

Airdrie's record is now 3 - 7 this season.  They'll hope to extend their winning ways this coming Friday night when they host the Rocky Rams at 8:00 pm at the Ron Ebbesen. The Rams are second in the North but are now just five points up on Airdrie.
