With a record number of toys collected, Alberta Health Services (AHS) has concluded its most successful Toys For Tickets program.

Those who received an AHS parking ticket had the option to give a brand-new, unopened gift in lieu of paying the charge during the program, which ran until December 15.

Compared to 470 toys gathered the previous year, over 870 toys were collected provincewide this year.

The toys were given to charitable groups and local foundations, who will give them to kids in the local areas.

“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the incredible community that turned parking tickets into moments of compassion,” says Mark Van Damme, an AHS manager of Parking Operations. “Your support has truly brightened the season for both our staff and the young hearts that will now have more toys to play with over the holidays.”

After its 2018 start, the Toys for Tickets campaign was put on hold due to the COVID-19 epidemic until last year.

Books, art supplies, scientific kits, electronics, headphones, Lego sets, portable DVD players, rattles, baby toys, activity books, crayons, colouring books, and gift cards for restaurants and grocery stores are among the items that were suggested for contribution (for families).

This year, Destination Cycles did their annual toy drive for the Alberta's Children's Hospital and were able to donate 930 toys.
