The Sylvan Lake Wranglers fired the first salvo in the Heritage Junior Hockey League North Division final with the Mountainview Colts last night (March 6).

Sylvan Lake won on home ice in the opening game of the best of seven, winning 6 - 2.  It's a battle between the third and fourth place teams in the division, who upset the higher seeds in their semi-final series'.  The Colts took out the first place Airdrie Thunder in six games while the Wranglers prevailed over the second-place Red Deer Vipers in seven.

The teams square off for game two tonight starting at 8:00 pm in the Didsbury Rec Complex.

The South final also got underway last night with the Okotoks Bisons doubling the Cochrane Generals 4 - 2 in Okotoks.  The Bisons finished first in the South by losing just twice in the regular season.  They then swept the High River Flyers in four games in the semi-final series.

The Generals finished in second place in the South but had to go the limit of seven games before eliminating Medicine Hat in their semi-final.

Game two is set for 7:30 pm tonight in the Cochrane Arena.
