It was an action-packed weekend for local lacrosse players, playing in front of fans for the first time in over a year.

The Rockyview Junior B Silvertips were in Cochrane Sunday for a game against the Calgary Chill which went to the bitter end.

After forcing overtime, the Tips fought hard but ultimately fell 13-12.

"The players played hard," said head coach Steve Henry. "We got caught with a lot of penalties in the second period which kind of hurt us and got the Chill back into the game. For our first game, it was good to see the energy on the floor."

Nolan Oakey, the team's captain this year, was named the JM3 Silvertips Player of the Game.

The Hawks and Irish will meet once again on Friday in Airdrie's Ron Ebbesen Arena.

The Junior B Silvertips play next on Wednesday, the same day the Senior B Rockyview Knights open its season against the Calgary Mountaineers.

The women's Junior and Senior Lady Silvertips are also getting ready to start their seasons as both are scheduled to play on Thursday.
