Airdrie RCMP and Calgary Police partnered on Friday to stop a stolen semi-trailer from Red Deer.

On Friday (March 23rd), Airdrie RCMP were notified of a semi-tractor trailer that was failing to stop for police. The semi was stolen from Red Deer and then was used to smash vehicles. Police attempted to stop the semi using a deployed spike belt however that failed.

The Semi drove off of highway 2 and proceeded down highway 2a to Crossfield before ending up in Airdrie. The spike belt had destroyed the front tire of the semi however the semi kept moving.

The RCMP Emergency Response Team and the Calgary Police Service HAWCS helicopter and Calgary Police Service TAC were deployed to assist. A joint tactical intervention by RCMP, ERT and CPS TAC was used to stop the semi tractor-trailer on 40 Avenue in Airdrie.

The semi came to a stop quickly and no one was injured.

35-year-old Robert Moench is now facing 10 charges including two counts of failing to remain at the scene of an accident, operation of a motor vehicle while being pursued by police, assault of a police officer and possession of stolen property over 5000 dollars.
