A free program for newborns and their parents is now available in Cochrane.

The Baby Box originated in Finland 80 years ago, but only came to Alberta in November.  Since then, more than 7,000 boxes have been distributed.

The Baby Box is entirely funded by sponsors and corporate partners and is available to any new parent, free of charge.  It's a Certified Safe Sleep Space portable bassinet with a waterproof mattress, fitted sheet, and a bag of baby essentials.

Theresa Moore, Director of Community Programs for Baby Box says it's also meant to open up dialogue to make new parents aware of the network of pre and post-natal care available to them.

A network of volunteer distribution locations make it easier for parents to pick up boxes within their communities. Cochrane's Parent Link Centre is one of the front line distributors for this service.
