Highway 1 continues to be blocked by fallen rock and debris from Monday nights rockslide near the town of Field.

Parks Canada estimates that by early evening on Thursday, October 27, a single lane will be re-opened.

Workers have begun to stabilize the rockface allowing crews to start removing debris, but in order to ensure safety, ongoing geotechnical assessments will be conducted before the highway can be fully re-opened.

The existing outside gravel shoulder will be graded and paved, creating the single lane for both east and west bound traffic.

The new paved lane will remain in place throughout the winter until the highway can be completely cleared and return to two-way traffic.

Parks Canada will be releasing information on the the future plans to completely re-open the highway by the end of the week.
