Census enumerators will start going door to door in Airdrie today, but you can still count yourself in online.

Lynn Harris, Census Coordinator with the City of Airdrie, says the online response so far has been great, with more than 60 per cent. She says last year, close to 74 per cent filled out their census online and they are hoping that number will be even higher this year.

Harris says beside being quick and convenient, there is a little extra incentive to filling out the online census, as those who do will be entered to win a Genesis Place family pass courtesy of the City of Airdrie.

If you have misplaced the pin number that was delivered to your door, Harris says you can call the City of Airdrie to obtain it.

Harris says every year the hope is to reach 100 per cent of the community and in past years they have only missed one or two dwellings. She says the annual head count literally pays off for the community, with each person generating $325 in government grant funding.

“Grant funding from the government which helps go towards our roads and infrastructure, parks and a variety of other things. It helps cut down on taxes,” she says.

According to the 2018 census, 68,091 people call Airdrie home, which was an increase of 4.88 per cent from the year before.
