Nominations have been announced for the 2020 Airdrie Business Awards and for the first time, the community will get a say in who wins.

After receiving more than 120 nominations, the Airdrie Chamber of Commerce has narrowed down this year's finalists vying to be named the best in Airdrie business.

Chamber Executive Director Marilyne Aalhus says a third-party adjudicator has a 50 per cent say in determining the winners and now it's up to the community to show their support for who they want to see win.

"For the first time this year, we've opened it up for a month of voting. People can head to our website and choose from any of the seven categories to cast your vote and show your love on any business or business leader that you want to support," she says.

Winners will be announced on October 23.

“We are proceeding with the Airdrie Business Awards in person at the Bert Church Theatre this year," Aalhus says. "The event will be staggered into two groups and only finalists, sponsors and their guest(s) are invited to attend the celebration. We surveyed the nominees giving them an option to choose from a virtual or in person event, and not a single response wanted the event online. We are therefore doing everything we can to offer a safe and successful event while continuing to honour our amazing local businesses."
