The Government of Alberta is helping those who are having trouble heating their homes this Winter.

On December 5th, the Provincial Government unveiled the Winter Utility Reconnection Program in partnership with the Utilities Consumer Advocate (UCA)

"The Winter Utility Reconnection Program protects the most vulnerable Albertans," said Minister Richard Feehan, "The program's a safety net for Albertans who are at risk of not having power or heat in their homes in the Winter months."

The UCA has been servicing Albertans since 2011 and Feehan says this program will continue the work in making sure no one has their power shut off in the dead of Winter.

Under the current regulations, an energy provider can't shut off Natural Gas between November 1st and April 14th and especially when the overnight temperatures drop below zero.

In the case of electricity, service can't be ended between October 15th and April 15th.

"The UCA has helped reconnect more than 380 homes to power and gas in time for winter," said Feehan.
