B.C. RCMP are investigating the death of an Alberta woman in the Kootenay region as suspicious.

Last Thursday, police discovered the body of Brenda Ware, 35, and her vehicle about 54 km northwest of Radium.

Police believe Ware was in the Didsbury area before travelling to Kootenay National Park where her body was found.

Investigators have since found a person of interest in the case. Philip Toner, 41, was located by police in the Central Okanagan on Tuesday after Mounties issued a plea to the public.

Toner has now been charged with second-degree murder in the death.

Police said Toner and Ware knew each other but that the nature of the relationship is not being released at this time.

RCMP are asking anyone who may have seen Ware or her vehicle, a red 2019 Jeep Cherokee with Alberta license plate YPC-553 between May 4 and 6 to contact them.
