Airdrie RCMP is hoping to put a stop to rumours running rampant on social media in the community and are releasing the conclusions they came up with about a vehicle colliding with a garage in the community of Bayview.

On Monday, April 30th at around 4:00 pm, a vehicle being driven by a male left the street and struck a garage on Bayview Street.  Emergency services, including Airdrie RCMP were dispatched.  The driver and lone occupant of the vehicle was the only one injured and he was treated at the scene by EMS and released.  Both his vehicle and the garage received significant damage in the crash.

Following the incident, the RCMP launched an investigation.  Constable Dan Martin said they are releasing the results of that investigation in an effort to quell all the rumours making the rounds.

"Airdrie RCMP are quite well aware of the social media as well as the local media attraction to this case.  We just wanted to put out a media release to quell some rumours about the matter being criminal in nature.  The collision investigation is now complete and the matter is definitely not criminal."

Martin said the male driver was the only person injured in the incident and he was issued two tickets under the Traffic Safety Act, one for driving carelessly and the other for not being able to provide a driver's license on the scene. Speed and alcohol were not factors in the collision.

Martin said he hopes now that the rumours will stop.

"Yeah, we just wanted to put that out to quell any rumours with regards to the driver being impaired or doing this on purpose, that type of thing.  We can't confirm or deny if it's a medical issue, but we just wanted to state that the driver has been issued a couple of tickets and the matter is now concluded."

Martin said the RCMP always want the truth to be known in all police matters.

"I think the biggest thing is the RCMP always wants to put the truth out there and explain the facts.  A lot of people do speculate and start rumours but the RCMP and all police have to work off of facts.  We just want to put the facts out so the real story gets out there."
