The Airdrie Abilities Centre Society has been offering activities and programs to special needs individuals for the past 5 years.

The Society's mission is to promote equal opportunities to support and demonstrate the strengths and abilities of person's with special needs.

In 2014 AACS obtained it's non-profit license and has been using donations to offer life skills programs as well as arts and crafts.

"We bring in a group that does cooking, it's called 'Meals Made Easy,' said Barb Woolsey, President Coordinator at the Airdrie Abilities Centre Society. "We cook a lunch and we end up that we eat lunch together."

As well as cooking, Woosley said that they have drum groups, dancing and music therapy, painting, sewing and bead work, as well as many other activities.

Woosley said that different agencies in Airdrie that work with special needs are embracing the group and helping their residents participate in the programs.

The programs are offered four days a week at different locations. On Monday and Thursday the group meets at the Daybreak Community Church, on Tuesday they meet at Michaels Craft Store, and on Wednesday they meet in the Sun room at the Airdrie Bethany Care Centre.

On top of their programs, the Society is a huge supporter of the Umbrella Conference which is being held June 3rd and 4th.

Bob Woolsey, Coordinator at the Airdrie Abilities Centre Society shared what will be taking place.

"The Umbrella Conference is a time for parents with special needs, with children of disabilities, or adults with disabilities, to attend a conference on learning some strategies and resources that are available for people with cognitive and physical disabilities."

The Centre Street Church in Calgary will be hosting the event this year, tickets are available at their website.
