Paramedics from Calgary and Airdrie opened their doors as part of a special week for their force.

May 28th to June 3rd has been designated National Paramedic Services Week and as Public Relations officer Adam Loria explains, it's an important week to have.

"It's just a chance for us to promote the great work that the men and women of emergency medical services does on a regular basis...have that ability to interact with the public on a low stress level."

EMS Technicians of all kinds held an Interactive Day on May 29th at the Calgary Zone headquarters in North East Calgary, which featured displays from Tactical teams, HAZMAT crews, Air Medics and more.

One of the features in the Interactive display was a Paramedic Simulation truck, one of only three in the entire Province.

When it comes to raising awareness to the EMS career and lifestyle, Loria said it's something their proud of, but they won't boast.

"We're a humble group of people, people that work in EMS so we don't really like to promote ourselves but everyone, no matter what they do in this world, hopefully they're proud of what they do and I know we are."

EMS will also be setting up outside Genesis Place on Wednesday, May 31 from 10-2, as a way for families to interact with local paramedics.
