An early morning multi-vehicle collision that was causing delays for commuters in Airdrie and surrounding areas, has been cleared.

Four vehicles were involved including one semi, no injuries were reported at the time. The collision occurred in the northbound lanes of the QE2, just past Yankee Valley Boulevard. Crews were on the scene for some time, which affected the left-hand lane and caused significant traffic congestion.

Adding to the challenges, a freezing drizzle warning was in effect, along with a fog advisory for most of Thursday.

Authorities were urging commuters to exercise caution and take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas. Freezing drizzle advisories are issued when drizzle falling in sub-zero temperatures is expected to freeze on contact, gradually forming icy surfaces over time.

Motorists were advised to reduce speed, increase following distances, and ensure vehicles are equipped with proper winter tires. If available, pedestrians should use designated walkways and sidewalks and wear appropriate footwear for icy conditions.
