Next week is National Volunteer Week (April 14-20) and Volunteer Airdrie will be hosting an event to celebrate those who spend time helping out others.

On Sunday, April 21, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., there will be a celebration at Bert Church Theatre. Doors open at 11:00 a.m. David Maffitt, chair of the Volunteer Airdrie Society explained they already have 375 guests signed up to attend.

"This will be the biggest event that we've ever run. We are looking forward to seeing how it goes."

Maffitt underlined that this event would not be happening without the help from the City of Airdrie and the Government of Alberta.

"This is happening thanks to the Volunteer Recognition Program from the city (council approved the program last fall) and the annual enhancement funding from volunteer Alberta and the Government of Alberta."

Before and after the event, there will be casual entertainment, snacks, and a cash bar available. Door prizes will also be available. Alongside violinist Talia Beckie, country rock musician and songwriter, Steve Jevne, will be performing.

"We'll also have a number of nonprofit organizations with their tables set up in the lobby to mingle with volunteers; giving them the opportunity to talk about volunteering opportunities as a way of promoting volunteerism in Airdrie."

Maffitt wants to thank everybody who takes the time to volunteer as it helps grow our community and make it a better place.
