For a second year in a row, the George McDougall Mustangs senior boys teams bested their crosstown rivals in another thrilling Battle of Airdrie last night (January 16).

The Mustangs took the floor against the Chargers in Bert Church's gym, and after four quarters had emerged victorious 80-65.

Head Coach Nathan Lee credits the win to his team's defensive effort.

"The team played great defense and were able to really shut down and drives and contest every shot. We had some break out moments for some of our players, with Jamis Mulholland coming on strong with great scoring and shot blocking."

Mulholland got multiple scoring opportunities both in the paint and beyond the arc. Lee was also impressed with the play of Jaiden Pannu, Caleb Lee, Carter Sawby and Ethan Smith. Overall his team showed grit and perseverance, but going forward in the season he said they'll need to recognizing who they're defending and make adjustments on the fly.

On the other bench, Chargers coach Mike Sera was understandably disappointed by the outcome.

"Last night was a rough showing for our team as there didn’t seem to be a lot of intensity displayed. All credit goes to George McDougall as they outplayed us in all facets of the game."

The two teams will see an extended break. The Chargers return to Rocky View action on January 31 when they play the Chestermere Lakers. The Mustang's next game is also against the Lakers on February 7.
