It turned into a real nailbiter yesterday (October 18) in the Division A semi-final in Rocky View High School football at Airdrie's Ed Eggerer Athletic Park.

Down 16 - 10 and facing elimination from the playoffs at the hands of the Springbank Phoenix, the Bert Church Chargers scored a touchdown with less than a half-minute left in the game then added the winning point when their convert was successful to pull out a thrilling 17 - 16 win.

The victory advances Bert Church to the Division A final of the RVS league where they'll face the winner of today's game in Cochrane between the Cobras and the W.H. Croxford Cavaliers.

The Cobras were unbeaten this season in Rocky View play while the Cavaliers finished in fourth place with a 2 and 4 record.

The final is set for next weekend on Friday or Saturday.

The win by Bert Church also guarantees that they'll be the Rocky View representative in the Tier Two regional qualifier for the Alberta Schools Athletic Association.  That game goes on November 1st or 2nd.

Also today, the Division B quarter-final goes in Airdrie when the George McDougall Mustangs play host to the Bow Valley Bobcats at 1:00 pm at Ed Eggerer Athletic Park.

The winner of that game will face Chestermere in the Division B semi-final.
