Airdrie police have been busy this month returning thousands of dollars worth of stolen property to businesses.

While executing a search warrant at a Luxstone Boulevard home on May 16 connected to a string of armed liquor store robberies in Airdrie, Cochrane, Olds and Carstairs, police made a surprising discovery.

"Inside the residence several stolen electronics were located, seventy-two to be exact, totaling quite a large sum of money," said Cst. Dan Martin.

The electronics were all in their original packaging, and police set about determining where they had been stolen from. Martin said it was a lengthy process, as each barcode needed to be scanned to determine the original store location.

"A large portion of them came from Best Buy, some from Cabela's and some from Walmart. The total loss to those businesses was over $14,000, over $12,000 of which came actually from Best Buy."

Now, an Airdrie man has three additional charges related to the stolen property to add to the 20 charges he faced from the liquor store robberies.

"As a result of this search warrant, 27 year old Christopher Carl Ferguson of Airdrie is charged with possession of stolen property and two counts of possession of stolen property under $5000. The Airdrie RCMP are currently looking for Ferguson, as there is an outstanding warrant for his arrest."

After he was arrested for the robberies, Ferguson was released by the courts. Martin said it is possible Ferguson is no longer in the province.
